Recycling Sees Apple Recover 2,204 Pounds Of Gold Plating

Here’s just how valuable your Apple products actually are – the company has just released its latest environmental report, revealing that as well as recovering more than 61 million pounds of aluminium, glass, steel and other materials, including 2,204 pounds of gold plating.

According to Business Insider, this means that at the current price for gold, Apple has succeeded in recovering just under $40 million worth of gold from old computers and phones. Really quite the impressive feat, wouldn’t you say?

Figures from activist group Fairphone show that the typical smartphone will include 30mg of gold in its internal components like the circuit board. And since Apple recycles millions of phones and computers each year, it’s not hard to see how quickly the numbers can add up.

So bear that in mind the next time you’re thinking of chucking that old phone in the bin. It might be worth a bit more than you thought, to Apple at the very least.

Gold plating can be extremely beautiful but when it’s on the inside of your phone, no one can appreciate its beauty. If you’re one of those who can’t bear to be apart from their phone, why don’t you look into having your iPhone gold plated to make it something extra special?
