Is Silver Overtaking Gold?
If you prefer silver plating your iPhone over a gold one, you may just be bang on trend this autumn.
Gold fashions have been hugely popular for a very long time now, and silver looks set to have its moment. While metallic of every hue have been in fashion both on people and in homes for a while now, silver looks set to take over as the trend-setters favourite, The Wall Street Journal argued recently.
Designers are using the colour to evoke memories of 1960s style space age designs and motifs, using highly polished colours in simple designs this season. Just check out Chanel’s plexiglass, metal and strass rocket back which is set to become a classic.
Silver is proving highly popular in shoes this season and is being used as an all over colour or as an embellishment. Just check out the glitter SR1 boots from Sergio Rossi this season, as well as the Michale Kors silver high-heeled sandals. Manolo Blahnik seals the deal with £730 silver mules.
Topping it all off however are Saint Laurant’s glitter boots which call on everyone to reignite the disco trend.
These are being paired with oversized knits in mute greys, threaded with metallic touches, as well as silver glittery tops and diamente trim. These are all coupled with mute makeup, and surprisingly shoulder pads.
This mashmash of the 60s, 70s and 80s picks some of the best glamour from across the decades, and adds a touch of noughties elegance to make it street-worthy.
