Simon Cowell Burglar Stole £1 Million Worth of Jewellery
Simon Cowell was robbed of more than £1 million worth of expensive jewellery when he was burgled last December.
The X Factor creator was asleep in his Holland Park mansion on December 4th, when a thief entered his premises at 1:30 am and walked away with the jewels, as well as passports and watches.
Earlier this week, Darren February attended Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court in west London charged with the crime.
Prosecutor Kevin Christie claimed the 32-year-old’s DNA was found on a glove near to the property, while CCTV footage was used by police officers to identify him.
However, defending Mr February, Peter McGovern said there were other suspects in the case.
Cowell previously said he believed the burglar had information about his property, stating: “He got up to the first floor and there were two doors, one to my bedroom and one to my bathroom, which leads to a dressing room where the safe was.”
The culprit walked into the bathroom, instead of the music mogul’s bedroom, leading to the 57-year-old saying: “I think he had inside knowledge, definitely.”
While it is likely lots of gold jewellery was among the possessions stolen from Cowell’s £8.5 million residence, most people can only dream of owning such expensive items.
Indeed, recent research from Saga revealed that 29 per cent of those over the age of 50 owe an average of £12,218 in debt, with one in ten believing they will never be able to pay this off.
